I have a particular affinity toward moleskins, Nietzsche, and fountain pens. I also enjoy cappuccinos, The Economist, dancing, B&W photography, Kafka, electronic music, philosophy, kickbox, Paulo Coelho, black (color), and politics. And of course, blogging. That's where BohemianTranscendence comes in: this blog is not only the recount of personal experiences, emotions, and thoughts, but also an exploration of the passion hidden behind our desire for life.

Las Vegas pics & mileage run to NYC

Tonight, I am in the mood for something Cuban.
Chan Chan is one of those songs you’ve known all your life, but don’t quite know where you’ve heard it first.

Not that it matters really, because when I listen to this song, my thoughts drift to the beach and late summer evenings.

Bye bye January. Hello February and mileage runs!

I’ve got to say, I’m pretty proud of myself for getting this post in before the end of January. Getting a second update this month seemed a slight stretch, especially with so much going on due to the new business, my in-laws visit, and the MBA.

Having to switch between monophasic (end of year holidays, in-laws visit) and polyphasic (the rest of the time) every fortnight for the past two months didn’t help much either: I felt like a zombie… [Read more.]

Hello back.

I suspect I should feel guilty for having abandoned my blog for so long. No posts, no training logs, no reading list updates. Perhaps, I should blame my absence on the broken cappuccino machine which left me to rehabilitate from my foamy caffeine addiction. But, considering my daily abuse of the French press and that in December I managed to get through a 5lb bag of Brazilian coffee beans all by myself, I doubt it’d be any excuse at all.

Hello Tuesday…

Hello and Happy Tuesday!!

I hope the week has been treating you well so far…

Just when I considered myself recovered from the double jetlag that hit me a few days after coming back from France, the daylight savings hit me. My body apparently refuses to accept it’s an hour earlier than it should be. But I’m actually rejoicing at this as it gives me the impression that time passes more slowly and that I’m able to complete more tasks.

Ludovico Einaudi in San Francisco, last night

When I go out with friends, we tend to visit places with a very specific music genre. But, when I am at home, I listen to many different types, ranging from jazz to house music to reggaeton to classical.
It was this way that by pure chance, listening to one of my Pandora radio stations, I first heard Ludovico Einaudi. The piece that played made such a strong impact on me that I couldn’t help myself, but… [Read more.]

An exercise in free writing

Proceed with caution: this post hasn’t been edited nor proofread. It is an exercise in free writing.

I spent so much time thinking about what to write, or rather what not to write, that much of what goes through my mind goes to the recycle bin. I guess that’s the curse of signing your blog posts with your own name.

I remember the time I had my very first blog. Although many friends knew of it and were… [Read more.]

Photography, Calligraphy, Work, Travel, and more…

Last Thursday, after completing the last class of the photography workshop I had signed up for five weeks before, I took a deep breath, let it out, and told myself I could start relaxing a bit. I hadn’t seen September pass by and before I knew it, October had already thrown itself onto me and taken me down with a countless list of tasks to be accomplished within tight deadlines. Although I had enjoyed the workshop immensely, being done with… [Read more.]

As a child and even in my young teen years, I was taught that you needed to wait for the right opportunity. That patience and preparation were the key to success. But life taught me a slightly different lesson.

I saw how many individuals around me – talented individuals – planned, prepared, followed the path they had traced for themselves, just waiting for that perfect opportunity when they’d get what they’ve always wanted. Still, there was always that “something” missing…. [Read more.]

Flights & Mileage runs

If you are a frequent flyer – perhaps, a particularly frequent one – the concept of mileage runs (outside of the running sport) is nothing new to you. But if you’ve never heard of this and are interested in travel, you might want to pay special attention.

If you’ve been following this blog, you know that this past August, the hubby and I made three trips (two to Chicago, one to Puerto Rico). Yet, one of those trips didn’t last… [Read more.]

Today’s Monday did not only mark the start of a new week, but also of a new season in San Fran. The Indian summer waved us goodbye yesterday, leaving his spot to be filled out by the rain and fog.

Rain & fog: that’s how winter works in this city. And I can’t complain, really. Because I love rain. I love wind. And I love the air they bring together with them. As for the fog… if you could look… [Read more.]
