With two long posts published on Wednesday night, I hope I am not overwhelming you. However, news must be delivered hot, which is why I wanted to get this post out as soon as possible.
First, I’ll start off with the disappointing news. As you must have noticed from some of my last posts, I adore Ludovico Einaudi’s music. I was therefore really excited when I learnt that he’d be having a concert in San Francisco. Unfortunately, I was too late to buy tickets and the event which is next week is already sold out. Unless I find some elsewhere, I guess I’ll have to miss his performance.
The good news is… well, there are several of them actually. Where do I start? I guess from showing off my new baby cell phone. (Yes, I am particularly attached to my cell phones. And not because I talk a lot on them – I actually spend very little time on calls. Rather, because I like to be “connected.”)
This is my Blackberry Torch. A beautiful Blackberry I must say, and not just because it is mine. Expect the story behind how I chose this phone over two Android phones (the Droid Incredible by HTC and the Samsung Captivate) in a later post. For now, I’ll keep it short by saying I love my phone, and I’m happy with my decision.
Apart from a new phone, I also have a new membership. To my local YMCA.
For several weeks, I was looking for a place where I could do some:
- Spinning. The truth is, I’ve passed a certification in spinning. I loved it so much that, after an year of spinning, when I got the opportunity, I told myself: “Why not?” However, I’m not teaching it and haven’t done spinning in a while due to my frequent travelling. Now, I’m ready to go back to it.
- Swimming. Triathlon anyone? Yes, that might be happening soon, so I’d better finally train to swim correctly… because, after many and many lessons, I still swim using my own style when there’s no instructor watching.
- Yoga. I happen to have a strong dislike for yoga, but running demands sacrifices and discipline, which is why I don’t really have a choice.
- Boxing. My love for boxing has not disappeared. But, since I came to the U.S., I haven’t practiced it. Again, now that I do not have to constantly travel back and forth the two coasts, it’s time to get back to it. And while the YMCA doesn’t offer what I’d call “professional, hardcore” classes, but more basic ones, it will still be a good way to slowly progress back into the sport until I get a “real” box membership.
The YMCA had all of the above. And that, for a much more reasonable price than most other gyms.
Result: I signed up yesterday, today I was already in. This morning, at 5: 45 a.m., I ran to the facilities for a 6:30 a.m. yoga class. (The second I’ve ever had in my life.) An hour later, when it ended, I ran back home to kiss my husband goodbye before he went off to work. I actually even managed to change quickly and accompany him to the train station, where we split, and I went off to the groceries store. Groceries done and back home with some amazing strawberries, I was starving and ready for my shower by 8:30 a.m.. Call this productivity.
This great start of the day put on track for the rest of my to-do list today. And I’m glad that writing another post is just off that list too
Until next time and even more news, I’m sending you all some yoga “Om/Aum.” Have fun.
